Once a Year...

"Once a year, go someplace you have never been before."

And where would you want to go today?

Reading these words, I don't believe it's only about travelling to far away places that one has never been before. Although that's always a journey I love.

I like to think that what the Dalai Lama truly means here, is also the places that are within you, or simply before you. Right where we stand, there is a world to be discovered.

It might just be, going for a walk in your neighbourhood, and of course,walking down a street that you've never walked down before. It might just mean, breaking a habit. Habits aren't always the things we do, it's also the places we go. The same café, ordering the same coffee. The same grocery store, picking up the same foods. Maybe this is a call to simply try something different. Try a different café, taste a different coffee, taste a different tea. Discover a new recipe and and lose the word inconvenient and drive out of your way to the farmer's market. It might just mean, walking into a church you've never been to before. It might just mean, going to the museum you've so often said you'd visit, but have never taken the time to actually make the time. And to not just think about it, but to do it.

It might just mean, taking a different route back home from work. Consciously saying there is a different way.

And the wonder of it all?

When we take the dare, and we take the time. We discover, we explore, we learn... And you never know who you might meet, or what you might see along the way.

Be playful with your journeys. Let your heart navigate you, your instinct and intuition. At every new crossroad, with every question asked while standing in line and you hear the words "What will it be today?"...

Let your heart answer that question for you.

"Once a year, go someplace you have never been before", could soon be, "Every day, do something you haven never done before."
