How to be an Artist...

How to be an Artist

Joseph Beuys.

Stay loose.
Learn to watch snails.
Plant impossible gardens.
Invite someone dangerous to tea.
Make little signs that say yes! And post them all over your house.
Make friends with freedom and uncertainty.
Look forward to dreams. Cry during movies.
Swing as high as you can on a swingset, by moonlight.
Cultivate moods.
Refuse to be "responsible".
Do it for love.
Take lots of naps.
Give money away. Do it now. The money will follow.
Believe in magic. Laugh a lot.
Celebrate every gorgeous moment.
Have wild imaginings, transformative dreams, and perfect calm.
Draw on the walls. Read every day.
Imagine yourself magic. Giggle with children.
Listen to old people. Open up. Dive in.
Be free. Bless yourself. Drive away fear.
Play with everything. Entertain your inner child.
You are innocent.
Build a fort with blankets.
Get wet. Hug trees. Write love letters.

Joseph Beuys. How to be an Artist.

And what are you going to do today?

I want to drink tea. And build forts with blanks.

I want to read a book. A walk in the snow.

And do it...  For Love.

Much Loves to you too,

Angela.

  1. Hi Angela. Is this an original poem written by you or Beuys himself? I wasn’t able to source it, and was just curious. Lovely regardless. Thank you!

    1. Hi Ambrocious... Sweet to hear from you.
I wish I could say I wrote these wonderful words myself... But they are from Joseph Beuys. A true artist reminding us how each of us can be an artist in and with life together. At least one of each of these things should be on our daily "to do" lists... I believe the world would be a little bit more kinder and gentle...
